The operatic soprano Synne Vinje received her education from the Stockholm University College of the Arts’ Opera Department / Operahögskolan, the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. She finished her master studies with a production in Gävle Theatre in June 2022, where she performed as the title role in an excerpt of Suor Angelica by Puccini, together with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra. Born in Oslo and raised in Bærum, the Norwegian soprano is currently living, studying and freelancing in Stockholm. Her vocal teacher and mentor is the Royal Court Singer Karl-Magnus Fredriksson, and she’s also mentored by another Royal Court Singer, Elin Rombo. In the fall of 2020, Synne was an intern at the Royal Swedish Opera as Paggio in Rigoletto by Guiseppe Verdi, under the direction of Sofia Jupither. The following year, she made her professional debut with a jump-in in a revival of the same production. Synne has been a soloist on the main stages of Stockholm Concert House, Kungliga Musikaliska Akademien and at Ulriksdal Castle Theatre Confidencen in Stockholm. In the summer of 2022 Synne made her debut as the Foreign Princess in Rusalka by Dvorák in Roslagen’s summer opera production at Österbybruk, conducted by Niklas Tamm and directed by Jennifer Macpherson. And in July, Synne debuted as Musetta in Patrik Sörling’s production of La Bohème by Puccini at Dalafloda Operafest. During her studies, Synne has performed, among other roles, as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème, Tatiana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Marenka in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, Anne Trulove in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust, Adriana in Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur, Adele in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Magda in Puccini’s La Rondine and Governess in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. Some roles were performed in full, others as excerpts. Synne is also performing within the church music and oratorio genre: In May 2022 she debuted as the soprano soloist with music by Buxtehude (Cantata) and Haydn (Kleine Orgelmesse), she has also performed in Oskar Kyrka, together with a string quartet and choir, conducted by Oscar Rutberg. Synne made her debut as the soprano soloist in Johannes Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem in Sofia Kyrka in October the same year, together with Karl-Magnus Fredriksson as the baritone soloist in a big choir and orchestra, conducted by Erik Westerlind and a week later in the church of Gustavsberg och Ingarö Församling. Over the years, Synne has been fortunate to study with many skilled artists such as Richard Hetherington, Asmik Grigorian, Patricia McCaffrey, Susanna Eken, Algirdas Janutas, Roland Schubert and David Jones. Among the conductors she has worked with are Sesto Quatrini, Vincenzo Milletarì, Gregor Bühl, Daniela Musca and Jonas Dominique. She has worked with directors such as Sofia Jupither, Anna Tomson, Jacopo Spirei,Wilhelm Carlsson and Stina Ancker. Synne’s vocal teacher at the Stockholm University College of the Arts is Ulrika Tenstam and at the Norwegian Academy of Music she was under the tutelage of professors Barbro Marklund, Bo Skovhus and Randi Stene. Synne has received both Swedish and Norwegian scholarships, encouraging her development as an artist.
